A
squatter by the name of William Slusher built the first house here in 1849.
The city sits in the center of the Diablo Valley near the foot of Mount
Diablo and close to the huge 19,000 acre Mt. Diablo State Park. Mt. Diablo
is the largest mountain in the bay area with views all the way past San
Francisco to the Farallone Islands on a clear day. It is a small upscale
city with good schools and excellent family living. There are many well
maintained parks with activities that children love. Convenient access
to Bart makes the 20 some mile commute to San Francisco easy. Only in the
last 20 years has it changed from a town of nut orchards to a bustling
city. To make it all the more ideal, it has no heavy industry. But many
white collar types of companies, as well as local businesses, provide employment
here to many of its citizens.
