Palo Alto
is more than 100 years old. It is named after a majestic 250 year old coastal
redwood tree along San Francisquito Creek, where early Spanish explorers
settled. Palo Alto and the other cities south of
San Francisco lie in what was once a rich fruit and vegetable growing region.
Until the early 1960's there were lots of agriculture, orchards, dairies,
wineries and many food-processing industries. The primary manufacturers
in the region were Lockheed and Westinghouse in Sunnyvale, and the Ford
Plant in Milpitas. Industrial production developed significantly after
World War II and growth has since been rapid. There are still manufacturers
of business, electric, food-processing machinery; household goods, aircraft
and motor parts. But the manufacture of computers, silicon chips and electronic
items started taking the lead in the late 1960's, 1970's and 1980's. The
region is now fondly referred to as Silicon Valley.

To give you a clue, an inspector who wants repeat business from a seller's
agent will write up a report that is satisfactory to that agent, meaning
"keep
it toned down so as to not scare off the buyer". An inspector who wants
repeat business from an Exclusive Buyer Agent will write up a report that
is satisfactory to that agent, or "find every possible thing wrong with
the place".|
